The Best Places to See Halloween Decorations and Trick-or-Treat in the Twin Cities

by Katrina DeWit

Halloween in Minnesota is magic! The chill in the air, the crunch of leaves, and the neighbors who turn their lawns into full-on movie sets. If you have little ones in costumes like I do, you often stick around your neighborhood to hand out candy or for trick-or-treating on Halloween night.  But if you're looking to explore beforehand or switch things up, here are a few of the best local spots to soak up the Halloween spirit this year.

1. “Life of a Showghoul” in South Minneapolis

Calling all Swifties! This pop-culture Halloween masterpiece, created by homeowner Miranda Soukup, features Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce, and a haunted twist on every album cover, plus a graveyard of the pop star’s “enemies.” There’s even a friendship bracelet bucket for trick-or-treat-style trades.
28th Ave S. & E. 46th St., Minneapolis

2. The Pomish Family Halloween Drive-By & Food Donation Event

One of the sweetest (and spookiest) community events of the season. Drive by to see incredible decorations, and bring a nonperishable food donation to give back while you enjoy the show.
6:30–9 p.m., October 23, 26 & 29, 2025
3256 Ensign Ave N, Minneapolis

3. Midtown Global Market’s Not-So-Scary Trick-or-Treat

Perfect for little ones (and parents who want dinner that isn’t pizza from the freezer). Kids can trick-or-treat around the market, join a costume parade, and make crafts. Bonus- it's inside, where it’s warm.
Oct 31, 5–7 p.m.
Midtown Global Market, 920 E Lake St, Minneapolis

4. Anoka — The Halloween Capital of the World

You can’t talk Halloween without mentioning Anoka. It's the Halloween Capitol of the World! Their Anoka House Decorating Contest transforms the whole city into a spooky drive-through. A list of homes and map will be released and labeled for family-friendliness or live-action scares, so you can plan your route accordingly.
Oct 24–25, 6:30–9:30 p.m.
Anoka, MN

5. BareBones Halloween Extravaganza in Powderhorn Park

This is a Minneapolis tradition: giant puppets, stilts, fire dancing, and a 12-foot skeleton puppet. It’s more performance art than trick-or-treating, but something you can't experience anywhere else.
Oct 30–31 & Nov 1–2, 2025
Powderhorn Park, 3400 15th Ave S, Minneapolis

6. Holiday Lights of Woodbury

Halloween meets light show! Enjoy 15 Halloween songs synced to lights, complete with a motion-triggered jump scare.
October 1–31
8846 Glacier Rd, Woodbury
