How You Can Support Kids Who Need a Place to Rest
Giving, Community, and Showing Up Together
This time of year always reminds me how important home truly is. Not just the walls and roof, but the feeling of comfort, warmth, and safety that so many of us are lucky to take for granted.
So each fall I highlight my annual partnership with one of my favorite organizations helping local kids experience that same sense of home, My Very Own Bed.

My Very Own Bed provides new beds, bedding, books, and stuffed animals to children transitioning into stable housing. For a child who has slept on the floor, a couch, or a shared bed, this isn’t just furniture; it’s dignity, safety, and belonging.
And this year, the need is especially high.
The week of Thanksgiving, My Very Own Bed will deliver 100 beds to kids across the Twin Cities.
This surge is because once kids return to school, social workers get a clearer picture of which families need support, and the requests increase significantly.
I love this organization for one simple reason: They meet a real, immediate need with compassion and joy.
How You Can Help (Pie Day + Beyond)
We’ll be collecting donations now through Pie Day (Nov 26th)
Here’s what they need most (new/unused condition please):
-
Huggable stuffed animals (top priority!)
-
Children's books
-
Pillows
-
Twin bedding sets
A donation box will be available at Pryes during Pie Day for anyone bringing physical items. If you prefer to give onine, you can donate via their wishlists here:
Every single item truly matters!
Community is built through small, intentional acts of care. I’m grateful to be part of a network of people who show up for each other, who share what they have, and who believe every child deserves a warm place to sleep.
If you donate, share, volunteer, or simply spread the word, thank you. You’re helping build home in the truest sense.
Wishing you warmth, rest, and a season full of belonging.
